I had to share this video and my thoughts from one of my closest friends Steve Leurquin. I was doing my daily reading when I came upon his latest post on friendship and wanted to share another perspective on the same video. Please read Steve’s article as mine will be tied in to his!

In a world where negative and skepticism is king how do people find the courage to bring out their greatness? I love this video because it explains how it is still possible to live your dreams and become a hero. How many people like Jonathan have greatness within but lack the friend and the stage to bring it out!

The LIFE Community is on a quest to offer both! In Orrin Woodward’s book Resolved 13 Resolutions for Life he teaches the principles of friendship. Everyone who takes the Mental Fitness Challenge is being trained to be that friend for the people around them in their community. Along with learning the right information, LIFE offers association on a weekly basis with like minded people who want you to live the life you’ve always wanted!

The LIFE Team offers a stage for you to shine just like this TV show gave Jonathan his chance. The LIFE compensation plan was created to reward those willing to go through the process: learn, do and then teach!

My friend Orrin Woodward is a prime example of this, from engineer to best selling author and leadership expert. Orrin was given friends for encouragement, a system to grow and a stage to showcase his greatness. In response to all of the blessings he has received he and 7 other co-founders created LIFE to offer this to anyone willing to learn and grow! Orrin, just like Jonathan, displayed his character by not running into the sun with his success but sticking to his friends’ side to bring them along for the journey and help them bring out their greatness!

Never again can you say, I wish I had my chance, it is here!

Enjoy this video and I hope you tear up as you see the greatness that is posible in YOU when encouragement, friendship, courage and character meet!

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

Are you ready to take the Mental Fitness Challenge?

Starting as early as today thousands of people are beginning to head toward Ohio. Some will come by bus, some by car and others by plane. Many will travel straight through the night to ensure they will not miss a thing! They are all headed to the Ohio State Buckeyes’ stadium filled with excitement, hope, and anticipation!

Many will bring Team flags to celebrate the victories of the ones playing the game and scream and shout with excitement as their favorite players take center stage!

While I write this many will think the Buckeyes have an NCAA game this weekend and all of their fans are going to watch the victory, but actually the Buckeyes are not playing.

This weekend the Ohio stadium will be filled with players of a different game, the game of LIFE! Thousands will show up and do all of the above with one huge difference, everybody in the stadium is playing the game and everyone can experience the victory for their own life! LIFE is about compensated communities working together to win in life!

While sports largely celebrate physical fitness, we celebrate Mental Fitness. We have invited down LIFE members from around the world to come and take the Mental Fitness Challenge!

The entire event will challenge the members to improve themselves mentally and inspire them to go out and help others improve their mental fitness as well.

Employ your time in improving yourself by other men’s writings so that you shall come easily by what others have labored hard for.

What you are must always displease you, if you would attain to that which you are not.
Saint Augustine

You cannot expect to achieve new goals or move beyond your present circumstances unless you change.  Les Brown

We cannot become what we need to be, remaining what we are.                                                                                           Max Depree

Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think.                     Benjamin Disraeli

I could list thousands of quotes by people who have achieved great things on the importance of working on your Mental Fitness. I could also list some quotes from critics who have achieved nothing in life on why you should not improve yourself. I guess the question is, which group would you rather listen to and associate with?

There has never been a statue erected to a critic, and there has never been a statue erected to a man that did not have critics!

Do not expect the critics around you to be excited about you taking time and money to grow yourself and become something more, because by improving you expose their unwillingness to improve themselves!

The LIFE Community is a group of people who have decided to take the Mental Fitness Challenge and improve themselves everyday!

Join us down in Ohio as we celebrate your sacrifice, courage, commitment and yes YOUR VICTORY!

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

The story that is being written is a story that will fill history books of the future. Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady began their leadership journey and partnership about 20 years ago and are just getting started. In the latest release of the Top 30 Leadership Gurus both Orrin and Chris climbed higher on the chart for I believe the 3rd year in a row, now claiming the #6 and #11 spots respectively.

Orrin and Chris are writing a remarkable story that started in two very different places. Here is what author Tim Marks had to say about Orrin Woodward:

Orrin Woodward grew up in Columbiaville, Michigan, a town where the word “vision” wasn’t something you’d hear pop up at the average dinner table. His brilliant mind and work ethic were quickly noticed by his superiors at work, and his amazing engineering genius resulted in four engineering patents to his name by the age of 25. He was on the fast track to corporate “success”. But he was eventually exposed to some new business information, and he decided to go against the grain. He ignored the 95% advice of his friends, family and co-workers, and he plunged head-first into his first entrepreneurial venture.

Success didn’t come easily to Orrin. We might watch him speak on stage today in front of thousands of people and forget that he failed a public speaking class in college. We might read the chapter on conflict resolution in his incredible book RESOLVED and puzzle that this great man describes his younger self as a “no-people skills engineer.” We might see the tens of thousands of people at a Major function and forget that he struggled for several years to build a business community past 200 people. And we might look at his lifestyle, his homes in Florida and Michigan, and his yacht, and not realize the massive battles that Orrin and Laurie have waged behind the scenes on our behalf.

From humble beginnings Orrin Woodward has risen to elite heights in business and leadership, he has now been voted the number 6 leadership expert and claiming the #1 spot from the IAB.  Probably the biggest impact Orrin has had is not in what he has accomplished but the people he has helped along the way. I am so thankful that Orrin has chosen to pursue his purpose because in pursuing his purpose he has given me one as well.

Chris Brady has been introduced many times on stages across the globe as a man who could have succeeded anywhere. Here is what leadership expert Orrin Woodward had to share about Chris.

In truth, Chris Brady has been a dreamer and doer for as long as I have known him. For example, when I was working a full 12 week assignment in Wichita Falls, Texas, I lived in an apartment provided by the AC Rochester plant (one of the reasons I agreed to go to Texas, since I was dead broke.) :) Chris was assigned to Wichita Falls for a six-week term to help launch a new product. Since the plant was already paying for an apartment, Chris crashed with me and several other students during his time in Texas. It was my six weeks with him in Texas that solidified by belief that Chris was different from the rest of us students. Specifically, when comparing his purpose and vision to the rest of ours. Simply put, I had never met anyone so young who was as driven to break free from mediocrity as Chris Brady. His determination and confidence was scary for a low self-esteem person like I was at the time.

However, with that said, his boldness and direction intrigued me as much as it intimidated me. Why did this guy believe so strongly in his purpose? How did he achieve this magical elixir so young? Whatever it was, Chris’s drive led to massive achievements throughout college. In fact, he finished second in his 1990 graduating class at GMI-EMI (not too shabby considering it is a school filled with brains.) :) More impressively, after graduation, he qualified for the coveted GM scholarship program. GM selects only a few of the elite graduates for an all-expenses-paid masters program. Chris chose the prestigious Carnegie-Mellon Institute and graduated with a masters in manufacturing systems. Little did Chris know, however, that beyond his degree, he would gain something much more valuable – the love of his life, Terri (Estes) Brady, whom he met at Carnegie-Mellon.

With such an impressive start in life it is not a surprise that Chris is making such an impact with his newest venture called LIFE. Chris is now the author of numerous best selling books and was recently named the #11 leadership educator in the world!  He continues to learn, grow and teach across the globe to help people achieve the life they have always wanted through better ideas and information.

Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady are just warming up and are on their way to the top of the leadership and personal development field. Their business LIFE has only been in operation since November 1, 2011 and they are already getting national attention for the quality of their products and the growth of the business. The friendship and partnership of Orrin and Chris will go down in history, along with the stories of the thousands and soon millions of people they are impacting in a positive direction.

Thank you Orrin and Chris for allowing us all to pursue our purpose in LIFE!

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

On my leadership journey there have been so many LIFE and leadership lessons. One of the biggest epiphanies is when you realize that every failure,  problem and or conflict is a chance to learn and get better. We have all been created equal in the fact that we are imperfect, unreasonable and sometimes unbearable. I say this with love and pointing directly at myself as the best example of this! I love this poem about people:

Lessons for life

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest person with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest person with the smallest mind.
Think big anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack if you help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you might get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

— Dr. Kent M. Keith

This poem makes it clear that where there are people there will be problems, the key is learning how to resolve the conflict that they create. In Orrin Woodward’s book Resolved: 13 Resolutions for Life he covers in detail the art of conflict resolution. “Whether leading a business, church or charitable organization, the ability to resolve conflict is essential.” I encourage you to pick up this book and study this chapter, it will make all the difference in your relationships.

Today I wanted to share just a piece of the book to give you some action steps to apply the next time conflict occurs.

  1. Affirm the Relationship – Here is a great way to start a conversation: “I am here, even though it’s uncomfortable, because I value our relationship and would rather be uncomfortable resolving our misunderstandings than comfortable with misunderstandings in our relationship.”
  2. Seek to Understand –The key here is to truly hear the other side of the story. Many conflicts are resolved at this step when you are willing to look at the conflict from the other side. “Get curious, not furious.” Orrin Woodward
  3. Seek to be Understood –Remember, resolution is the object, not justification. After you successfully get through the first two steps you can share your perspective. Again, not to justify but to create understanding and a plan for future interactions.
  4. Own Responsibility by Apologizing – A leader is aware that it is always our fault, even when it is not. We need to take responsibly for as much of the conflict as we truthfully can. Even if the other party is entirely at fault I still apologize for my part in the problem and ask for forgiveness.
  5. Seek Agreement – Leave the table on the same side with a plan to avoid future conflict of the same nature. Other problems will arise but the same problems should not persist.

More animals in the barnyard, more “stuff” to deal with. The bigger the following we create the more problems we will encounter. Courage is the virtue that underlies all virtues. It will take courage to apply the five steps and resolve conflict, but the blessings of the strong relationships it will create will be eternal.

God bless,

Dan  Hawkins

LIFE - Will you?

We are back in Wisconsin after an amazing leadership convention down in Columbus, Ohio. The stadium was packed with people ready to make changes in their lives in 2012. I am always so impressed with the hunger that is displayed both from the people in the audience and the speakers on the stage.

LIFE is changing lives for the better and making a difference. I love to meet people in the hallways of the stadium and the hotel to hear how the weekend is hitting them.

“Thank you and the other founders for making this possible, LIFE has already made a positive difference for me.”

“I was not sure if I should come, but now I will never miss another one.”

“I have never experienced something like this, this is awesome.”

“I love this community.”

“I have learned so much that I can apply right when I get home.”

“We have talked more as a couple this weekend and cannot wait to get home and start working on our marriage.”

“The ride down was worth the money just to have fun with true friends.”

“This community is going to change the world and protect our freedoms.”

I could continue for the rest of the day sharing the feedback we heard this weekend these are just a few I wrote down to share with you.

While walking through the hotel with my two oldest daughters I was stopped more times than I could count with people sharing their stories of the things they were learning this weekend. Endless people thanking me and my daughters for helping to launch LIFE. My seven year old looked up at me and said, “Dad you are like a movie star, that’s awesome!” After a good laugh I explained that was surely not the case, I have just been blessed by God to be used for His glory.

LIFE founder Chris Brady shared on stage that if you even improve one life, help one marriage, lead one person to truth in any of the 8F’s, you have done something of eternal significance.

You can make a difference in someones life, start with your own today and show by your light that there is a better way to live LIFE!

Will you is the question?

Please comment and share what impacted you the most this weekend in Columbus at the major!

God bless, Dan Hawkins

Hey everyone, we found this great article from Orrin Woodward.  It made us smile and remember the power in this one principle! Enjoy!
Accept, Approve, Appreciate, Validate & Smile
by Orrin Woodward on Fri 16 Jan 2009 02:03 PM EST  |  Permanent Link  |  Cosmos

I watched the most incredible 15 minute video of my entire life.  The lessons in this short 15 minutes cover a range from joy to depression, victories to setbacks, naive positivity to chosen positivity, self to others, individual to team, living small to living large, hopeless to hopeful, taking to giving, paycheck to significance, and many more.

The longer I live, the more I realize the essential hunger inside of everyone to be accepted, approved and appreciated.  If we, as human beings, could all learn to focus on others before focusing on ourselves, we would overcome so many of the problems that plague our society today.  If we desire acceptance in life, then we must give acceptance.  If we desire approval in life, then we must give approval.  If we desire appreciation in life, then we must give appreciation.  If we desire validation in life then we must give validation and if we desire smiles then give others your smile.

I know people can accuse me, an engineer, of losing my rationality and falling into sentimentality, but I know what I speak is true.  A sincerely thought out and spoken or written comment can fuel a person for a week.  I know many high achievers and it is as true for them as it is for a young child.  Recognition: grown men die for it and babies cry for it.  Do not hoard this precious gift.  Do not feel that complimenting and praising others takes from you.  Appreciation is one of the few gifts that the more you give it away, the more it returns to you.  You will gather more bees with honey than vinegar.  There is a shortage of honey and stockpiles of vinegar in life.  This short film has inspired me to share my thanks with you.

I want to thank all of my friends and family for the many kind words and encouraging statements.  I will never be able to share how much they have meant to me over the last year.  The world tends to beat the joy out of you, but you still have the choice of whether to surrender your joy.  If you lost your joy in 2008, then choose now to reclaim it by giving away joy to others.  Start a virtuous cycle of sincere praise and appreciation and let’s change the world one life at a time!  Can you imagine if every person at every open encourage the other people at our opens like Hugh Newman?  The Team would be well past one million people in no time at all!  God Bless, Orrin Woodward

Assignment: Please share the names of people who have brought joy to your life through their encouraging words of appreciation and validation.

Wow the weekend is almost here! Talks are being prepared, people are packing, planning and procrastinating. 🙂 Goals are being chased heading for the finish line.

Major Leadership Convention in Ohio!

LIFE/Team Leadership Convention

I cannot wait to see the LIFE leadership community this weekend. This is the first official LIFE major and it is set to kick off 2012 with a bang.

If you have big goals for 2012 with the LIFE/Team this convention is a must. You are going to receive incredible inspiration and instruction to explode your business and improve your life.

Some of my best memories are from major convention weekends. The road trip down, cramming way too many people in a hotel room, late night pizza, friendships built and powerful information shared to create change. This is community and we are coming together to connect and make changes, both in ourselves and in this country.

You can expect to have your cup over flowing with information with all of the LIFE Founders in attendance to share from experience, failure and major success. We will have top leadership Gurus, Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady speaking this weekend to inspire you to lead where you are and make a difference with leadership in your community. Orrin Woodward was recently awarded the #1 leadership spot from the IAB and he will be speaking to us!

When I speak all over North America I ask this question: Who here thinks there is something wrong in this world, maybe you cannot put a finger on it but you can feel it, something is not right? In every room every hand goes up. Albert Einstein said, “we cannot solve our current problems with the same level of thinking that created them.”

If we truly want to see lasting change in ourselves and our countries it is time to do something. Begin to learn and grow, get new information so we can have new ideas. Join the LIFE community and start working on a new level of thinking so we can start to solve some problems!

See you in Ohio (or California if you are on the West Coast)!

God Bless,

Dan Hawkins

Is Orrin Woodward helping people?

At a recent seminar I was able to spend a ton of time with Leadership expert Orrin Woodward. What amazed me was after the seminar Orrin Woodward sat and signed a book for anyone who had a copy of any of his books. This does not surprise me because Orrin is always serving, what amazed me were the comments I heard. Person after person shared how Orrin and the LIFE/Team have changed their life. Not just Orrin your great, it was specific things and examples of what has change for the better in their life. One LIFE member said “this guy (Orrin) is a giant in leadership and business.” To this I added, Orrin is not only a giant in business, but he is a giant maker.

Critics of Orrin Woodward should be ashamed of their unfounded comments. So many people will believe a cowardly critic who hides behind a keyboard and has no results in life. All the while they lose their chance to live a life of purpose and become their best. I wish I would have pulled out my phone and took a video of this line and all of the sincere praise and thankfulness this group had for Orrin and the Team.

Orrin Woodward building leaders.

Orrin Woodward has and continues to poor his heart, mind and soul into people who want to become leaders. He has given all of us the tools to become our best in LIFE and pursue our purpose. What I love most about Orrin and the Team, is they are willing to walk the walk, not hide and gossip.

LIFE leaders hitting new levels

I wanted to share what happens when someone has the courage to step out and apply the principles Orrin Woodward teaches.

It has been my pleasure to watch this couple apply the LIFE materials to their life and begin to change their story. Both have had to overcome many things to gain success.  Some of which include humble beginnings, tragic accidents, struggles with self worth, and not feeling capable of leading people.

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

Well the much anticipated launch of Orrin Woodwards the-life-business is here. We are now down in Ohio getting ready to launch the company that will rewrite the networking industry. All of the details will be shared from the leaders of this weekend and 1000’s of people will leave here ready to create a better tomorrow for their families. I have the privilege of being one of the founders of LIFE, and all I can say is hang on it’s about to get crazy! There is a buzz in the air that cannot be explained, but very clearly felt!

Throughout the weekend I will be posting videos and posts from the live event!

You cannot stop an idea who’s time has come! What happens when you combined Personal Development, Networking, Life Coaching, and Community Building……A better LIFE….. for you!

Thank you Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady for being men of character and finishing what you set out to do, 1 million people! Lets go!

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

5 steps to build more confidence

One of the first books I was encouraged to read by best-selling author and number 7 leadership guru Orrin Woodward was the Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, PH.D. Within the first 25 pages I was able to identify the biggest personal struggle I was having that was keeping me from success, in business and in life. In the book a story is shared of a man where he discovers his limiting belief and the story hit me right in the heart. Here is the part that hit me: “I was seeing my weak point for the first time. I discovered that I had held back. I had always carried a little stick. I dug into myself deeper and deeper and found the reason I lacked initiative was because I didn’t believe inside that I was worth very much.” This single paragraph sent me on a mission to find value in myself, build my confidence, and make changes in my life. I wanted to live “big”, to have a meaningful life! I encourage you to pick up the book but first I want to share one of the things I applied from the book that made a huge difference for me. I still remember studying these five principles and trying to apply them everyday, sometimes asking my wife (be careful here 😉 ) and others around me if they noticed me applying what I was learning. Everyday I would review the 5 things and try to use them all day. Here are the five confidence-building exercises from The Magic of Thinking Big.

1) Be a front seater.

Sitting in the front of any event draws attention, but it is also the place to learn the most. Sitting up front builds confidence. Show up early to meetings and grab the front row!

2) Practice making eye contact.

This was tough for me, I would much sooner hide behind the brim of my hat then make eye contact. When you make eye contact people want to talk to and acknowledge you. Looking into someones eyes not only build confidence, it tells others you are confident and honest. If someone does not look you in the eye you feel the are hiding something.

3) Walk 25 percent faster.

Moving quickly is a sign of a good attitude and confidence. Someone who walks faster says to the world “I’ve got some place important to go, something important to do. What’s more, I will succeed at what I will do 15 minutes from now.”

4)Practice speaking up.

“The more you speak up, the more you add to your confidence, and the easier it is to speak up the next time. Speak up. It’s a confidence-building vitamin”

5) Smile big.

Even the act of smiling makes you feel better about yourself and the day. When you feel fear or defeat let out a big smile, it is hard to feel bad when you are smiling. I actually used to practice smiling in a mirror before I went out and then asked people around me to let me know if I was smiling.

I hope you decide to give these 5 principles a try!

God bless, Dan Hawkins
